Mat Based Live Workshops are designed to educate fitness, medical and wellness professionals in the theory and exercises of the late Joseph H. Pilates. These hands-on teacher training workshops include an illustrated workbook and students receive hands on tutoring from a PIA Master Teacher Trainer. In the Foundation Mat Workshop students learn the philosophy, principles, teaching tips and over 55 mat exercises. The Mat Foundations Workshop is a home-study workshop that offers beginners the basic concepts of the Pilates method of exercises as performed on the mat without any apparatus. The Advanced Mat Workshop builds upon this foundation and teaches over 45 advanced mat exercises. For variety, PIA offers Pilates on the Ball Workshop which uses the foundation knowledge and translates classic Pilates exercises on to the stability ball.
Certificates of completion and continuing education credits are supplied at the end of these workshops. Actual teaching certificates are earned, after receiving passing grades on both, practical and written exams, and after completion of a short internship period involving personal practice and intern teaching hours. All certificates are renewable every two years with 15 hours of continuing education.
